Last Word on Pro Wrestling brings you this preview of the AEW Rampage card for May 5, 2023.
AEW continues its foray at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. What was once the homebase of Ring Of Honor, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The date is in fact Cinco De Mayo. But they decided to hold a battle royal themed after it on Wednesday instead. I suppose it was because it was the 3rd. And it was a Trios battle royal, but… It was an odd choice. Speaking of odd, the start time for Rampage this week is slated to be 6:30pm. However, it’s not the first time it ends up changing mid-day. And it doubtfully won’t be the last as it’s Play-Offs season for both the NBA and NHL.

Return Of Deletion
Matt Hardy sets himself up for his seventh cinematic match tonight. As he, Brother Nero (or just Jeff Hardy right now), FTW Champion Hook and Isiah Kassidy await the arrival of The Firm at the Hardy Compound. Big Bill, Lee Moriarty, Ethan Page and Stokely Hathaway. While we’ve seen 4 of these in Impact! Wrestling and 1 in WWE, we’ve yet to see one of these Matt Hardy cinematic matches from AEW. As Matt’s participation in the first-ever Stadium Stampede is his only cinematic credit in AEW.
However, this one taking place at the Hardy Compound, one can expect, without a doubt, maximum DELETION! Who will we see? Will trusty ol’ Señor Benjamin make an appearance as he prepares the battlefield for combat? What of King Maxel and the rest of the Hardy brood? Will we see the return of Skardsgard? The DILAPIDATED Boat? What other unexpected figures may appear? What crazyness would Stokely Hathaway and Ethan Page come up with? Ethan has had his own cinematic masterpiece. An epic battle wit the legendary Karate Man just before heading into AEW. One thing is for certain. That nothing is for certain. Especially in the Hardy Compound.
Mark Comes Home
Mark and Jay Briscoe may be famous for being from good ol’ Sandy Fork, Delaware. But their birthplace is actually Baltimore, Maryland. Mark Briscoe sees action tonight against the member of La Faccion Ingobernable, Preston Vance. El Perro Peligroso. But can the self-proclaimed “Dangerous Dog” match up to the former multi-time ROH World Tag Team Champion in his birthplace? We’ll find out.
It’s Friday, The Perfect Place For Some Lucha Action
Friday nights are the perfect place for Mexico’s finest wrestling. And AEW does in fact tend to always have at least one match of the sort set for Rampage. And it may prove to be absolutely wild as the trio of Penta El Zero Miedo, Rey Fenix and the AAA Megachampion Hijo Del Vikingo all team up to take on QTV. QT Marshall, Aaron Solo and former TNT Champion, Powerhouse Hobbs. There’s no telling what the trio of Mexican daredevils will do together, but they have a fantastic base in the powerful Powerhouse Hobbs. The master veteran QT Marshall and young prospect in Aaron Solo to light the world on fire with. So lets see how it goes.

All that, plus TBS Champion Jade Cargill in action, the reigning AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR are set to speak, and given they were issued a match against Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett, my guess is that will be the topic of conversation. Plus, matches to announce for Dynamite, maybe even some for Double Or Nothing and more. Tonight on this AEW Rampage card.
