Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This time we take a look at Franco Varga. Ryan Boman spoke with Varga about his career and plans.

That alert you hear from your Emergency Broadcast System is not a test. It has nothing to do with tornadoes, fires, or flash floods. It is – quite simply – a warning to the wrestling world that Franco Varga is on his way. And he’s bringing plenty of thunder and lightning with him.

Varga,  a 275-pound big man with both power and agility, has been like a global storm over the past several years. Not only has he crisscrossed the United States, but he’s also competed in Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. As he flows along the jet stream, he has made his presence felt on nearly every continent.

That consistent schedule has led to a tidal wave of success, but it hasn’t always been a breeze. The 10-year veteran has faced some of the very best competition on multiple continents, and the Doppler Effect has increased his overall skill level. He’s now been upgraded to a Category-5 pro wrestling prospect. One that may be on the verge of touching down and wreaking havoc in either WWE or All Elite Wrestling very soon.

In an Exclusive Interview With Last Word on Pro Wrestling, Franco Varga Detailed His Career and His Long-Term Goals

Varga immediately discussed how much his travels have helped him prepare both physically and mentally for the next level. As one of the most in-demand performers in today’s indie scene, he’s constantly fielding offers from promotions in the United States and abroad. The blue-chip prospect says that working in different environments and against varied opponents has helped to up his game.

“I primarily focus on creating content and wrestling on overseas tours,” he commented. “I love wrestling 20-25 dates in a different country per quarter.”
Part of keeping up that schedule has been the willingness to travel all over the Earth to face the best challengers.
“Wrestling in Europe has been an amazing experience. My favorite one was headlining three shows in one weekend against the likes of Doug Williams and Joey Hayes. Europe has been one of my favorite places to wrestle with places like PCW, Bolton Town Wrestling, and Wrestle Island to call home.”

The Powerhouse Performer Says That He Has Never Let Anything Discourage Him During His ‘Wake of Destruction’

Much like the rumbling in the clouds and the quaking of the Earth, he is inevitable. Now, as he looks back, he’s happy that the naysayers didn’t extinguish his flame. Over time, he’s developed a keen sense of not only the professional wrestling industry but also where he fits into it.
“When I first started, like everyone else, I wanted to be on TV,” Varga said. “The closer I got to that goal I realized that my true goal was to make a living being a professional wrestler and my focus changed to primarily wrestling overseas and building a fan base.”
“(People told me) you can’t do this as a living. I was always told that everyone should have a second job or something until they make it to TV. I slowly found out that it wasn’t true per se. Smart investments of money and time in wrestling can set you up for a lot of years whether you are on TV or not.”
“I am constantly learning new things about the business. The good, the bad, and the ugly sides at times. But I appreciate all of it because I am a better wrestler and businessman for it. Never stop learning.”

Franco Varga Is Cut From the Mold of a Traditional Big Man

While many wrestlers of his size might resort to high spots and dives, Varga still tries to keep it simple. Despite being part of a new wave of talent, he remains steadfast to a few old-school beliefs. Therefore, he uses plenty of slams and throws during his matches. And although he can go toe-to-toe with the best of them, he still likes to remind people what real professional wrestling is all about.

“The high flyers can do cool things on the ropes and the technical guys can wrestle circles around people,” he asserts. “I can dead-lift someone off the ground into any suplex of my choosing. Every show should have variety, so when I stick to my strengths it helps the overall show. There is a place on the show for everyone so I try to focus on being the variety.”
Always staying humble, the veteran performer says that every time he walks out in front of an audience that he wants to register somewhere on the wrestling Richter scale.

The Fallout of It All Is Quite Simple… Franco Varga Wants to Make an Impression That Won’t Soon Be Forgotten

“I always assume that even though half the crowd may already know who I am the other half is seeing me for the first time. My goal is to leave my match with everyone remembering who I am.”
Continuing his journey across the sports entertainment stratosphere, Varga will face current MLW World Champion Alex Hammerstone in the main event of First Time Ever in the Chicagoland area on December 9. As his destiny lies on the horizon, the future star has a message for all those that have been supporting him.
“Thank you! Thank you for all the support,” he stated emphatically. “I get messages and T-Shirt sales from all the countries I’ve wrestled in. It truly means a lot to me, and I feel like I would be nothing without my fans.”
