#AndNEW: NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned

NXT Women's Tag Team Championships

In the opening matchup for the August 2 edition of NXT 2.0, the team of Katana Chance and Kayden Carter defeated Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolan and Jacy Jayne, Yulissa Leon/Valentina Feroz & Diamond Mine’s Ivy Nile and prospect Tatum Paxley to win their first NXT Women’s tag team titles as a team after unsuccessfully challenging for the titles twice prior.

Kayden Carter & Katana Chance Win NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship

Kayden Carter:

For Kayden, this is her first title under the WWE umbrella. Prior to WWE, she was The Crash Lucha Libre Women’s Champion, under the name of Lacey Lane. Being signed to WWE in 2018, Carter was a part of the 2nd Mae Young Classic making it to the quarterfinals defeating indie standout Vanessa “The Mountain” Kraven in the first round, and current AEW Talent Taynara Conti before losing to Meiko Satomura.

Katana Chance:

Formerly known as Kacy Catanzaro, the former American Ninja Warrior standout became the first woman to complete a City Qualifiers course & the first woman to complete a City Finals course.

Chance would sign to WWE in 2017 announced in the inaugural Mae Young Classic, eventually getting her shot to compete in the second tournament, one year later, where she would advance in the first round defeating Raquel Rodriguez but was eliminated in the second round by Rhea Ripley.

She would participate in the 2019 Royal Rumble as an NXT participant, lasting a little bit over ten minutes before coincidentally being eliminated by Ripley.

After an injury scare, Chance would briefly retire from the business altogether until a return in January of 2020 as a participant in a battle Royal on NXT. Catanzaro revealed in an interview that she took some time off because she had doubts about continuing in the Professional Wrestling business.

As a Team:

Carter would be a standout in NXT aligning herself with Katana Chance throughout their NXT careers, competing in consecutive Women’s Dusty Classic Tournaments in 2021-22, where in 2021, after advancing to the Semi Finals defeating the team of Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez in an upset, they lost in the semi finals to eventual winner and inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzales (now Rodriguez).

In 2022 they would advance to the semifinals for a second time defeating the team of Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley, only to lose to the runner ups of Kay Lee Ray (now Alba Fyre) and Io Shirai (now IYO SKY).

Chance and Carter would have two championships opportunities first against Shirai and Zoey Stark and the second against Jayne and Dolin, coming up empty handed on both occasions.

This is their first reign as NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
