Shinjiro Otani Injured During Zero1 Show

Event poster for Ryogoku show where Shinjiro Otani was hurt

Pro Wrestling Zero1 held their anniversary show at Ryogoku Sumo Hall on April 10, 2022. The card was loaded up with Zero1 regulars as well as legends like Dump Matsumoto, Aja Kong, Tatsumi Fujinami, and Zero1’s Shinjiro Otani who was challenging Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Takashi Sugiura for the Zero1 World Championship. Sadly, the main event had to be stopped suddenly following a German Suplex into the turnbuckle that left Otani unable to get up.

Fans were immediately concerned as Otani was unable to move for some time, laying in the corner of the ring as Sugiura delivered a show-closing promo. Tokyo Sports went on to report that Otani was unconscious initially and was taken to hospital where he regained consciousness.  However, he is still unable to get up as of the latest reports.

Frequent translator Shigeo offered an English language translation of a Yahoo article based on ZERO1’s ring doctor and his comments on Shinjiro Otani and his condition. According to Shigeo, the doctor stated that Otani was responding to the doctor’s calls but couldn’t move his limbs.  The doctor finished by stating his belief that Otani had suffered a cervical spine injury.

Last Word on Sports joins the entire wrestling world in wishing Shinjiro Otani a speedy recovery.
