Pro Wrestling NOAH News: Title Matches for Grand Square 2021 in OSAKA

Grand Square 2021 - Pro Wrestling NOAH

Pro Wrestling NOAH recently finished the N-1 Victory, with Katsuhiko Nakajima winning the tournament for the second time in his career. When he won the tournament, he gained an opportunity at the GHC Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming pay-per-view known as Grand Square 2021 in OSAKA. Three title matches will be taking place at this event.

GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Championship Match

On the first night of the N-1 Victory, the tag team of Atsushi Kotoge and Hajime Ohara would win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from the former champions, Yuya Susumu and Seiki Yoshioka. After the match, they were challenged by a relatively new tag team: NOSAWA Rongai and Eita. This team was formed in the brand new Los Perros del Mal de Japon faction. This marks Eita’s first title match within the company. Meanwhile, this is the first time Rongai challenged for the titles since earlier this year. With the chaotic nature of NOAH’s junior heavyweight division, this match could be an exception. It’s unlikely that Rongai and Eita will dethrone the champions in their first defense. However, crazier things have happened this year in this division.

GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship Match

In one of the major title matches for the card, Daisuke Harada battles the GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion, HAYATA. For context, Harada is considered by many as the top star of the junior heavyweight division, being a former 4x GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion while also being relevant in the tag team division as a 6x GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. However, the success would crumble for him in the middle of 2020, when his faction, RATEL’S, would explode.

HAYATA was the finishing blow for the faction. Ever since the destruction of the faction, HAYATA became the GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion. He often defeated members from his past like YO-HEY and Kotaro Suzuki. Now, HAYATA has a true test when he faces the personification of his past, Harada, one of the top members of RATEL’s. This could be one of the top junior heavyweight matches of the year. These two recently faced off twice, once in a 30-minute draw on the September 15 show and once for a minute in the climax on the N-1 Victory finals show. This upcoming bout has has high implications for both men.

GHC Heavyweight Championship Match

In the main event of the evening, Naomichi Marufuji defends the GHC Heavyweight Championship against Katsuhiko Nakajima. As mentioned earlier, Nakajima won the N-1 Victory tournament, which consisted of the 16 of the best workers of Pro Wrestling NOAH. With his victory, Nakajima earned an opportunity at the GHC heavyweight title. Nakajima has a long history with the company, boasting one reign as GHC Heavyweight Champion in 2016 that lasted for almost a year.

Naomichi Marufuji, on the other hand, has held the GHC Heavyweight Championship for the past 4 months, with his most notable matches being against Kazushi Sakuraba and Takashi Sugiura. Nakajima has a history of defeating both men, with Nakajima recently defeating Sakuraba in the N-1 Victory. Marufuji and Nakajima have a history going back to NOAH’s old faction, BRAVE. Meanwhile, Nakajima eliminated Marufuji from the N-1 victory in 2020.

This match should be a spectacle. It may be a defining moment for Katsuhiko Nakajima or the start of a long reign for Naomichi Marufuji. The only thing that is for certain is that Grand Square 2021 in OSAKA could be one of the top NOAH shows of the year and it all starts on October 10.
