The Usos vs. The Street Profits Announced For Extreme Rules

Extreme Rules 2021 - The Usos vs The Street Profits

Via social media, World Wrestling Entertainment has announced that the Street Profits will face The Usos for the SmackDown tag team championships at Extreme Rules. The event is to be held on September 26 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Being cast in the Bloodline saga has rejuvenated the prospects of the Street Profits. They became SmackDown tag team champions in 2020, after swapping their Monday Night Raw titles with the New Day following the 2020 draft. After losing the SmackDown tag titles to Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode the Profits languished in a directionless comic feud with Alpha Academy, Chad Gable and Otis. The Usos claimed the titles from Dominik and Rey Mysterio at SummerSlam. A week later, on August 27’s Friday Night SmackDown, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins were Finn Balor’s back up when he attacked Reigns, paying him and The Usos back for attacking him on August 6 when he sought to take on Reigns for the Universal Championship. At “Super” SmackDown at Madison Square Garden on September 10, Reigns looked on as The Usos and The Street Profits vied for the tag titles.

The high-energy match elicited raucous cheers from the MSG crowd. The Street Profits seemed to be closing in on The Usos and the SmackDown tag titles, when Reigns intervened, entering the ring and locking Ford in a guillotine. The match ended in a DQ, with The Usos keeping their titles, but action soon shifted to Balor’s appearance, the first time his alter ego “The Demon” had graced the blue brand, and its first appearance overall since 2019.

With Reigns facing Balor for his Universal Championship at the Extreme Rules event, and now the Usos being added to the card defending their titles, as well, the Bloodline is set to make the event another installment of their Saga, which has dominated SmackDown to invigorating effect throughout the last year and a half.
