#AndNEW: Lance Archer Wins IWGP US Championship at Fyter Fest

Jon Moxley vs Lance Archer AEW Fyter Fest Results

In the main event of AEW Fyter Fest Night 2 Lance Archer battled Jon Moxley in a Texas Death match.  Lance Archer defeated Moxley after a chokeslam through tables covered with barbed wire boards, Moxley failed to beat the referee’s count much to the approval of Archer’s home state audience.  This is Archer’s second time holding the IWGP US title.

Lance Archer Wins IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship for a Second Time

Archer will now defend the title at next week’s Fight For The Fallen against Bullet Club’s Hikuleo.  As mentioned previously this is Archer’s second run with this championship, his first came back in 2019 when he won the vacant championship before dropping it to Moxley at Wrestle Kingdom, Moxley has held the title ever since.  Moxley’s 565 day reign was disrupted by COVID-19 which only allowed him to make 5 defences of the championship in the 18 months he has held on to the championship.  Archer is likely to be a transitional champion to get the title back into the possession of NJPW but could also be used to set up some inter-promotional matches for NJPW’s Resurgence event.

The IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship switch marks the first time an NJPW title has changed hands on an AEW show, and is the first NJPW title change to take place on a non-NJPW since 2013 when Andrade El Idolo, then known as La Sombra, beat Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on a CMLL event.
