Blood, sweat, and a fork. When it was announced that Jon Moxley would defend the IWGP United States Championship for a second straight week, this time against former champion Lance Archer, it felt that it could only main event. No offense to Britt Baker’s title defense, but when you think back to these two men’s match inside the Tokyo Dome with the same rules, you remember an absolute war. And that’s what they gave tonight.

Both men were bleeding at points in this match. Archer was busted open by a Paradigm Shift DDT on the concrete while Moxley was busted open as he had a trash can lid smashed into his face. These two fought around the arena even as Archer used a fan to attack Moxley! It was the craziness that only these two could deliver. The match stunningly ended when Archer hit a Chokeslam on Moxley, putting him through two barbed wire tables to end the match and make Archer the new IWGP United States Champion.

It was not only a genuine surprise by AEW but a welcome one for someone like Archer. It has felt like time after time Archer came so close to gold but faltered. Now, he has the IWGP United States Championship and accomplished that in a fantastic war. Moxley’s next steps will be of much interest while Archer’s involvement with NJPW once again will be something we all await as well. A great main event to conclude Fyter Fest.
