#AndNEW: Atsushi Kotoge wins the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship

Atsushi Kotoge

The GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship is the top prize in the Pro Wrestling NOAH junior division. It’s a championship that has been held by legends like KENTA, Naomichi Marufuji, Kotaro Suzuki, and many more. The GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship has become a major focus within Pro Wrestling NOAH in recent times and it is now around the waist of Atsushi Kotoge.

With only a year of experience within Pro Wrestling NOAH, Seiki Yoshioka would defeat Daisuke Harada for the GHC Junior Championship at February’s Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Destination 2021 Back To Budokan Event. This marked the first time that Seiki Yoshioka would hold this championship and on the most recent major show with Great Voyage In Fukuoka, Seiki Yoshioka would battle Atsushi Kotoge in the third to last match.

This match was a twenty-minute war between both wrestlers. Leading to one of the best junior heavyweight championship bouts in years and a shining moment in both wrestler’s careers. For Atsushi Kotoge, this is his first GHC Junior Championship win since 2016. Since that reign, Kotoge had failed to make an impact the singles division card, focusing mainly on the junior tag team division. He joined multiple factions, eventually becoming part of the Full Throttle Stable, and even reformed his tag team with Daisuke Harada. This tag-team would become GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions in 2020.

Seiki Yoshioka didn’t have the title for long but there is no doubt more Jr Heavyweight title runs in his future.  This is Kotoge’s third run as champion, the first in 5 years.  No challenger stepped forward as of yet meaning we will have to wait for Kotoge’s first defense
