#AndNEW: Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo Win IWGP Jr. Tag Titles

Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo

New Japan Pro Wrestling is currently in the process of the “New Beginning Tour”. This tour has focused on hyping up the big matches with a number of “road to” shows. In this tour, one of its bigger shows featured an IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title match.

At Wrestle Kingdom 15, El Phantasmo would make his return to New Japan as part of the big junior match between BOSJ winner Hiromu Takahashi and Super J-Cup winner Phantasmo. After he lost that match & Taiji Ishimori also lost his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Both Ishimori & El Phantasmo would go for some unfinished business to reclaim a belt they were stripped of in 2020.

The Tag Team of ELP & Taiji Ishimori were former IWGP Junior Tag Team Champions, this tag team was the junior tag champions going into the pandemic era of New Japan. They were eventually stripped of the championships due to Phantasmo’s absence and new tag team champions were crowned in July in El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru.

On the main event of Road To New Beginning on January 23rd, El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori would defeat El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru to regain the IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship for the second time in there tag team career. It is currently unknown who the next challengers are for the titles coming into the Castle Attack Tour.
