#AndNEW: Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin Win RAW Tag Team Championship

Cedric Alexander Shelton Benjamin RAW Tag Team Champions

At WWE TLC, Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Business faced The New Day, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, for the RAW Tag Team Championship. Over the past several weeks, these teams have been involved in a heated rivalry for the gold. Previously, The Hurt Business were unsuccessful. However, at TLC, business finally boomed. By the end of the night, Alexander and Benjamin held the RAW Tag Team Titles.

During this match, Alexander and Benjamin had MVP in their corner. The founding member of The Hurt Business provided support for his men, even offering Alexander a bottle of water to help hydrate. The New Day had the match in their favor early on. However, the combined agility and finesse of Alexander and experience and physical attributes of Benjamin helped shift the match in their favor. It also didn’t hurt that they had MVP’s support during the match.

The match approached its conclusion once Benjamin hit Kingston with a suplex off the top rope. As Benjamin looked to finish off Kingston, Alexander tagged himself in, much to the shock of his partner. However, this proved vital, as the confident Alexander quickly laid out Kingston with a Lumbar Check. Alexander covered Kingston for the pinfall victory. One sound of the bell later and new RAW Tag Team Champions were crowned.

This victory is important for a few reasons. First, it marks the first time that Cedric Alexander has held tag team gold in WWE. Second, with said victory, Benjamin holds team gold in WWE for the first time in over seventeen years. Back in 2003, Benjamin held the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside Charlie Haas; together, as The World’s Greatest Tag Team, they won the gold on two separate occasions. In the early 2010s, Benjamin and Haas would go on to win the World Tag Team Championship in Ring of Honor twice.
