Preview: Stardom – Yokohama Cinderella 2020 Day 2 (8/23/20)

Yokohama Cinderella 2020 Day 2

Day one of Yokohama Cinderella 2020 has a good lineup but day 2 has three title matches as well as a special singles match between Mayu Iwatani and Momo Watanabe.  Stardom has really gone all out for Yokohama Budokan so let’s preview day 2 of the back to back supershows.

DEATH Yama-San vs Ruaka vs Hanan vs Rina vs Hina

DEATH-San takes on some of the younger competitors in Stardom in this 5-way battle.  She will win unless Hanan pins one of the other youngsters.  Not much to say on this one other than it’s a smart choice to put the experienced DEATH in there with younger talent.

Itsuko Hoshino vs Saya Iida

Itsuki Hoshino’s final match in Stardom is against fellow STARS member Saya Iida.  Both debuted in 2019, albeit at different ends of the year, and would likely have spent some time together training.  Hoshino had a short career but made an impression on this writer with her nervous energy making her very easy to root for.  Saya Iida is a great wrestler so at least Hoshino will go out with a good match

Riho vs Natsu Sumire

Oedo Tai’s Sumire battles Riho in a match with a small bit of backstory from the recent Oedo Tai vs Riho/Hayashishita tag team match.  Riho will probably win this one anyway as Sumire doesn’t get hurt by losses all that much.

Tokyo Cyber Squad (Jungle Kyona & Konami) vs Oedo Tai (Natsuko Tora & Saki Kashima)

KyoNami have suffered from miscommunication recently but they will need to get back on track here if they want to stand a chance against Tora and Kashima.  Most everyone knows the history between Tora and Kyona who were former tag champions as part of Jungle Assault Nation but their relationship has long been fractured and there’s no love lost between the two.

Mayu Iwatani vs Momo Watanabe

A special offer match and the third time these two will meet in singles action in the last 12 months.  Their last two matches were pretty good, with their GP match last year being an absolutely fantastic sprint.  This will likely go to a draw as both need to be protected but it should be a really good match.

High Speed Championship: AZM (C) vs Starlight Kid

This could be a real show-stealer.  Every time these two step into a ring they deliver some of the most exciting wrestling in all of Stardom.  With Riho out of the way, these two can now have the match that only they are capable of to showcase their abilities.  AZM won’t lose on her first defense but it’s great to see these two rivals continue their feud.

Goddesses Of Stardom Championships: Queen’s Quest (Utami Hayashishita & Saya Kamitani) vs Donna Del Mondo (Himeka & Maika)

Queen’s Quest and Donna Del Mondo clash for gold for the second day in a row.  This time the new champions Utami Hayashishita and Saya Kamitani defend the Goddesses Of Stardom titles.  DDM’s main tag team looks to be Himeka and Syuri based on Stardom’s booking which means they’re the DDM duo most likely to hold the titles, Maika is seemingly here to take the pin.  Maika of course also has a grudge with both Hayashishita and Kamitani which plays into this one and adds some layers to the match.

Wonder Of Stardom Championship: Giulia (C) vs Tam Nakano

Yokohama Cinderella 2020 Day 2

It’s odd that Stardom has gone back to this match so soon.  The two just wrestled over the Wonder Of Stardom title the last Korakuen Hall show where Giulia pretty decisively won a 28-minute encounter.  While Nakano didn’t tap out in that match it would’ve been preferable to give her some time to rebuild before going right back to the match and having her likely lose again.
