Report: Edge Signs Three-Year Contract With WWE

“The Rated R Superstar” is officially back. Edge made his grand, stunning return in the men’s Royal Rumble match on Sunday night at number 21 and finished in third. After months of speculation and denial on Edge’s part (but, that’s what wrestlers do), it would appear, much like Rey Mysterio‘s surprise rumble appearance two years ago, that this one is going to stick. According to the Twitter account, WrestleVotes, who has broken a number of stories in the past, Edge has signed a three-year contract with the WWE.

But a three-year contract is not all. According to LWOPW sources, we can confirm that Edge’s new contract is molded much like the contract of Brock Lesnar. As both WrestleVotes and LWOPW sources said, the money in the deal is significant. What is also of note is that Edge will reportedly be working a limited, part-time like schedule.

The 2020 men’s Royal Rumble was the first for “The Rated R Superstar” since 2011 at WrestleMania XXVII when he successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio. Shortly after, Edge was forced to retire due to neck injuries and could have seriously risked his well-being with a return to action. The belief was that would be it for him, as he was then inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the following year in 2012. Since then, Edge has made returns to television for special appearances but never a long-term role. He also created a podcast with his best friend, Christian, which was ended late last year but was never revealed why. We may now know.

Time will certainly tell what is next for Edge, who by all accounts will be a must-see attraction for the foreseeable future as no one truly knows what is next for him. As fans,  any return from Edge would have been appreciated but the thought that he is sticking around for more than one match makes what happened in the Royal Rumble that much sweeter. WrestleMania season remains the best.
