#AndNEW Shine Tag Team Champions: Aja Perera & Big Swole

At Shine 61, history was made for the company and their Tag Team Championships. Triple Aye, the team of Big Swole (also known as Aerial Monroe) and Aja Perera were led into battle by Ayla Fox. Thanks to their victory at Shine 60, Triple Aye earned a shot against the Shine Tag Team Champions, Rainbow Bright. Shine officials also made this match a no disqualification, no count-out New York City Street Fight.

Aja, Ayla and Big Swole came out to the ring for their match with huge smiles and dancing; they were excited and ready for their title shot. Rainbow Bright came to the ring dressed in street clothes, prepared to fight as well. The “athlet-thick” duo of Aja and Big Swole was just too much for Gabby and Latasha. For the first time in the promotion’s history, both of the Shine Tag Team champions are African-American women.

This is the second championship that Perera has held in Shine. She won the Shine Nova Championship at Shine 54 from Candy Cartwright. Perera held that title for several months before losing it to Shotzi Blackheart at Shine 58. She’s also the current Girl Fight Champion. With this victory, Big Swole picked up her first-ever championship in Shine Wrestling. She’s also the current Phoenix of RISE Champion, which she won over SummerSlam weekend in Canada.

Triple Aye, with their victory, are the eighth Shine Tag Team Champions in the title’s history. Other teams that have held the titles are The Kimber Bombs (Kimber Lee & Cherry Bomb), The Lucha Sisters (Leva Bates & Mia Yim), and BTY (Marti Belle & Jayme Jameson). Long reigns litter the title’s history, having been around for only 5 years with so few title changes. With the crafty and savvy Ayla Fox in their corner, the heights for which Aja Perera and Big Swole can rise to are unlimited.
