Brock Lesnar Becomes Third Man to Win MITB, King of the Ring and Royal Rumble

Brock Lesnar

WWE has long been a purveyor of specialty matches, but there are three that stick out as huge accomplishments for a WWE Superstar. The fabled King of the Ring tournament (started in 1985 and last seen in 2015), the Royal Rumble (annually since 1988) and Money In The Bank (held since 2005) represent three huge matches that only a handful have won. But with his shocking win of the 2019 Money In The Bank Ladder Match on Sunday, Brock Lesnar enters rare territory, as one of only three men to have won a MITB Ladder Match, a Royal Rumble and a King of the Ring tournament in the career.

The first man to do it was WWE Hall of Famer Edge, who completed the specialty hat trick in 2010 when he won that year’s Royal Rumble. Edge had won the King of the Ring in 2001 and in 2005 won the inaugural Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 21.

While Edge was the first to do it, the second man to accomplish the hat trick was the Celtic Warrior Sheamus, who needed only six years to accomplish the feat. While it took Edge 13 years to score the trifecta, Sheamus got his three wins in his first six years with the company after debuting in 2009.

Despite being only the third man to pull off the hat trick, it took Brock Lesnar much longer to accomplish it, as it’s taken him 18 years to win all three. He won the first two within his first full two years with the company, but the MITB had always eluded him, mostly because he was either away from the WWE in UFC or holding the title himself. Now that the Beast Incarnate holds the briefcase, it’s only a matter of time before he conquers yet another World title in the WWE.
