The Sins of the Father: Is Rey Mysterio Jr.’s Son Dominic WWE Bound?

Rey Mysterio

For months now, an old face to the WWE Universe has been seen on WWE television, albeit a whole lot grown up. As Rey Mysterio Jr has been pursuing Samoa Joe and the WWE United States Championship – which Rey won on Sunday night at Money In The Bank – he’s been side-by-side with his real life son, Dominic Gutiérrez. For long time WWE fans, they’ll remember a young Dominic being used as a pawn in a feud between his father and Rey’s longtime best friend (and foe) Eddie Guerrero back in 2005.

Since then, Rey’s son has grown up quite a bit and now he’s been training to follow his father’s footsteps in becoming a pro wrestler. Now 22 years old, Dominic has been training several years now. In 2017, he started his journey in his hometown of San Diego, California with Finest City Wrestling (with his father and Konnan) and in the fall of 2018 headed to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he began training with WWE, WCW and ECW Superstar Lance Storm.

Early this year, following the completion of his training at the Storm Wrestling Academy, he returned to the West Coast, training in La Mesa, California at the Level Up Wrestling School. Level Up is a newer school, only founded in 2018, but it’s run by West Coast indie legend B-Boy, an 18-year veteran who has was a breakout star with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) in its early formative years, as well as with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW)IWA Mid South, and other West Coast indies like Alternative Wrestling Show (AWS), Empire Wrestling Federation (EWF), and All Pro Wrestling (APW). He’s made a comeback of sorts the past year, working with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Bar Wrestling, Inspire Pro, and more.

Early this year, Rey Mysterio applied for the trademark Prince Mysterio, which many assumed would be Dominic’s new ring name (Rey Mysterio means Mystery King in Spanish). Earlier this month, reports began to surface that WWE may have indeed signed Dominic to a developmental deal of some sorts and that we may be getting ready to see the Prince in action sooner than later, emerging from the sidelines in the story against Samoa Joe and entering the ring.
