Fantasy Super Cosplay Wrestling Is A Real Thing: And It’s Beautiful

Wrestling has long portrayed itself as real-life superheroes, going back generations. Outlandish characters, unreal physical bodies, and spandex, pro wrestling made an easy transition as the real-life portrayal of comic book superheroes long before Disney started making movies. In comic books, wrestlers have gone on to become some big characters, like Batman archvillain Bane, or one of the Captain Americas, the steroid induced John Walker. But recently, a new promotion has arisen that takes the best indie wrestlers in the nation and has them wrestle as actual superheroes, from comic books, video games and movies, and puts them in a cosplay situation. Fantasy Super Cosplay Wrestling (FSCW) is a touring company that only puts on shows at Comic Book Conventions, hitting conventions like the Florida SuperCon, the Raleigh SuperCon in North Carolina, Louisville SuperCon in Kentucky, and others over the years.

Here’s a look at their roster the first two years.

AERIAL MONROE as STORM (Marvel Comics’ The X-Men)

A recent competitor in the 2018 WWE Mae Young Classic, Aerial Monroe is no stranger to the US indies, appearing regularly with Shine Wrestling, RISE, FEST Wrestling, and SHIMMER.

CLARA SINCLARE as REY (Star Wars)

Clara Sinclare is a product of the UK indie scene, where she wrestles as Alexis Rose, appearing for Tidal Championship Wrestling (TCW) and the first reboot of World of Sport. She also works with Pro Wrestling 2.0 out of Florida.

ALEX CHAMBERLAIN as SKELETOR (He-Man & The Masters of the Universe)

Alex Chamberlain is a veteran of the Florida indie circuit, with RONIN and Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW), who has also appeared regularly on this season of Ring Warriors and Championship Wrestling From Hollywood. He does multiple characters for FSCW, including American Psycho‘s Patrick Bateman.

ZOEY SKYE as SPIDER GWEN (Marvel Comics’ Spider-Verse)

Zoey Skye competes on the indies under the name Zoey Skye, but is also known for her time in SHIMMER and RISE as Dust, where she’s the reigning Heart of SHIMMER Champion and one half of the RISE Tag Team Champions.

SHOTZI BLACKHEART as THE NUN (The Nun, The Conjuring Series)

Shotzi Blackheart is one of the indie scene’s top emerging women’s stars, competing for SHIMMER, IWA Mid South, RISE, FEST Wrestling and IMPACT Wrestling. She’s a former IWA Mid South Women’s Champion and Phoenix of RISE Champion. She’s also done other characters, including Darkstalkers‘ Morrigan Aensland.

SOLO DARLING as DAENERYS TARGARYEN (Game of Thrones)

Solo Darling is a regular and trainer with CHIKARA, and has worked for Women’s Wrestling Revolution (WWR), SHIMMER, Ring of Honor, Shine, and many more.

WILLOW NIGHTGALE as GARNET (Steven Universe)

Willow Nightingale is another of the emerging new stars on the indie scene, working out of the New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC), as well as WWR, SHIMMER, Queens of Combat (QOC), Shine and more.

KIMBER LEE as MYSTIQUE (Marvel Comics’ The X-Men)

Kimber Lee recently returned to the indies after a stint in NXT as Abbey Laith. The former CHIKARA Grand Champion has worked for a long list of top indies, such as CHIKARA, Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Beyond Wrestling, Stardom, PROGRESS, Shine and many, many more.

MIKE MONROE as DOVAHKIN (Elder Scrolls)

Another Florida indie star, Mike Monroe is a veteran of REAL Pro Wrestling (RPW), FEST, RONIN and IGNITE.

JASON CADE as SPIDER-MAN (Miles Morales, Marvel Comic’s Spider-Man)

Jason Cade is one of the top cruiserweights in the US indie scene, working with Major League Wrestling (MLW), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), Wrestling Revolver, Full Impact Pro, FEST and many more.

BEASTLY BRODY as LOBO (DC Comics’ Lobo)

Another Florida indie star, Beastly Brody is a regular with FEST Wrestling, RONIN, American Combat Wrestling (ACW), and others.

ALLIE KAT as BLACK CANARY (DC Comics’ Birds of Prey)

Allie Kat is another of the handful of emerging young stars to work with FSCW. She’s been a breakout star this year with NOVA Pro, IWA Mid South, Southern Underground Pro (SUP) and more.

THE MJF as HANDSOME JACK (Borderlands)

Maxwell Jacon Friedman (MJF) is one of the indie scene’s top heels and brightest young stars. He recently broke his elbow, vacating his CZW World Heavyweight Championship and MLW Middleweight Championship.

LEVA BATES as SILENT HILL NURSE (Silent Hill)

Leva Bates has been pro wrestling’s cosplay queen for years now, so it’s only fitting she finds herself in the first official cosplay wrestling promotion. She gained cult status as Blue Pants in NXT, but she’s also a veteran with SHIMMER, Shine, RISE, FEST and many other promotions over her lengthy career.

CALEB KONLEY as STAR LORD (Marvel Comics’ Guardians of the Galaxy)

The IMPACT Wrestling star is familiar wrestling under a mask – when he’s not wrestling as Caleb Konley alongside Trevor Lee, he’s the masked wrestler Suicide. He’s also one of the South’s top indie stars, working with America’s Most Liked (AML) Wrestling, Wrestling Revolver, West Coast Wrestling Connection (WCWC) and more.

CHELSEA GREEN as CATWOMAN (DC Comics’ Batman)

She won’t be donning the suit anymore as she’s recently signed with NXT, but Chelsea Green once purred in the ring for FSCW. The former IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion and indie superstar wasn’t the first star to wear the catsuit. WWE Superstar Ruby Riott (formerly Heidi Lovelace) and another former IMPACT Knockouts Champion, Su Yung, have also wore the spandex.

LEON SCOTT as KRATOS (God of War)

At 6’4″ and 280 lbs, Florida wrestler Leon Scott has filled several characters costumes for FSCW events, including God of War‘s Kratos, House of 1000 Corpses‘ Captain Spaulding, and He-Man & The Masters of the Universe‘s Beast Man. He’s a regular with FEST, where he’s a former FEST Tag Team Champion, as well as appearing for MLW, Premiere Wrestling Xperience (PWX), and more over a 15-year indie career.

MATTHEW PALMER as ASH (The Evil Dead)

Matthew Palmer is better known these days as the husband of WWE Superstar Ember Moon, but he’s a veteran indie wrestler in his own right. A 10-year veteran, he works with Wrestling Revolver, Inspire Pro Wrestling (IPW), RONIN, Texas’ Anarchy Championship Wrestling (ACW) and many more.

ANGEL ROSE/DIAMANTE as MILEENA (Mortal Kombat)

Indie star Angel Rose (also known as IMPACT Wrestling’s Diamante of LAX) had a rough past year due to injury, but she recently made her IMPACT return. She’s also starred with Shine, QOC, FEST and many other promotions.

JAKE MANNING as DEADPOOL (Marvel Comics’ Deadpool)

Iowa’s Jake Manning is an 11-year indie veteran, and former PWX Heavyweight Champion. Apart from PWX, he’s also wrestled for Northeast Wrestling (NEW), Wrestling Revolver, Rockstar Pro, AML and many more.

SU YUNG as EVIL-LYN (He-Man & The Masters of the Universe)

Apart from Catwoman, IMPACT Knockout Su Yung also works FSCW as He-Man villain Evil-Lyn. Su Yung has had a breakout 2018 since joining IMPACT Wrestling but has built a solid career with SHIMMER, Shine, QOC, IWA Mid South and other.

RAY LYNN as HARLEY QUINN (DC Comics’ Batman)

Ray Lyn is another breakout star on the indie circuit, gaining notoriety with her recent work with RISE, SHIMMER and other promotions.

VEDA SCOTT as QUEEN BERYL (Sailor Moon)

Former Ring of Honor star Veda Scott has competed as Sailor Moon‘s Dark Kingdom baddie, Queen Beryl. A longtime star with ROH, SHIMMER and Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), Scott has spent a good chunk of the past year in Europe, with Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), the UK’s RevPro, ATTACK! and Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE) and Japan’s DDT Pro.

BRIAN CAGE as BANE (DC Comics’ Batman)

Although he has a large part of his gimmick based around Marvel’s Wolverine, IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Champion Brian Cage portrayed Batman enemy Bane for FSCW. Cage is one of the US indie’s superstars at the moment, working with Lucha Underground, Bar Wrestling, Beyond Wrestling and others the past few years.
