#AndNEW: Taya Valkyrie Crowned First AAA Lucha Capital Women’s Champion

This week, Taya Valkyrie reached gold in her return to AAA in Mexico on the new AAA brand Lucha Capital. On Tuesday night, in a triple threat match to crown the first ever AAA/Lucha Legend Women’s Champion, Taya Valkyrie defeated Puerto Rican star Vanilla Vegas and former Crash Lucha Women’s Champion Keyra.

Taya Valkyrie Crowned First AAA Lucha Capital Women’s Champion

It marked a homecoming for Taya Valkyrie, a return to the promotion she worked extensively for from 2012 through 2017, where she held the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship on two occasions. She shattered the AAA record with an astonishing 945-day reign from 2014 to 2017, beating Faby Apache‘s record by over 400 days. She departed from AAA in early 2017 after winning her second title, when she was stripped of her title following being left off a show. Then-booker Vampiro claimed that Taya was sick when he vacated the title, while Taya claims she wasn’t even told of the event in the first place. With Konnan taking over as head creative for AAA, Taya and her husband, former AAA Mega Champion John Morrison (Johnny Mundo/Johnny Impact) have returned to the fold.
