Tessa Blanchard & Mercedes Martinez Set Record For Longest Women’s Match

Last night at RISE 10: INSANITY, Phoenix of RISE Champion Tessa Blanchard faced off against Mercedes Martinez in a 75 minute Iron Woman match, that saw Mercedes Martinez defeat Tessa Blanchard for the title. In the process, the two set a new record for the longest women’s singles match in the history of pro wrestling at 75 minutes.

Ironically, setting these records isn’t exactly something new for Mercedes Martinez. After all, she held the previous record in 2011 with Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) in a 73 minute match against Lexxus (now Alisha Edwards in IMPACT Wrestling) in a WSU Championship defense.

Not only does Mercedes Martinez share the record for the #1 and #2 longest women’s matches of all time, she also was part of the #3 longest match, which had set the record prior to her WSU title defense in 2011. In 2009, still with WSU, she won a 70 minute Iron Woman match against Angel Orsini. And her 2009 match not only set the new record in 2009, it smashed it. Before that match, the longest match was a 2007 title match between Europe’s Real Quality Wrestling (RQW) Champion Wesna defending against Cheerleader Melissa at ChickFight IX: Our Final Chance. And that match went just over 43 minutes.
