Four More Names Announced for Mae Young Classic II

The WWE has revealed four more competitors for this summer’s edition of the Mae Young Classic, adding to the originally named six entrants, Kaitlyn, Io Shirai, Rhea Ripley, JinnyKacy Catanzaro and Nicole Matthews, including one returning competitor and three new NXT stars.

Former UK indie star Nixon Newell was supposed to be one of the breakout stars of the inaugural Mae Young Classic last year, signing just prior, but an injury in training sidelined her for a year. The former Defiant Wrestling Women’s Champion returned a few months ago and has been a standout on NXT Live Events, usually paired with Dakota Kai, and will be looking to emerge as one of NXT’s upcoming stars in the MYC.

WWE only confirmed her signing yesterday as part of the July class at the Performance Center, and already they have big things planned for her. She was an alternate last year and has worked NXT and Smackdown Live matches in the past, but has spent the majority on the indies with Ring of Honor and in Japan with Stardom.

An NXT Live Event regular for the past year since her debut at last year’s Mae Young Classic, the second generation wrestler is the daughter of Ricky “Desperado” González. Gonzalez is more of a brawler than a technician, but she looks to take that aggression and get a better showing this time out.

A Performance Center homegrown talent, Elaban has become a fan favourite on the NXT Live Event circuit the past year. “Standing 5-foot-10, the rangy Elaban has been pegged as an up-and-comer to watch since joining the WWE PC last May,” WWE stated. “An athlete her entire life, Elaban also excelled at soccer, basketball, track and dance before setting her sights on the squared circle. Having spent the past year learning under the WWE PC’s world-class coaching staff, Elaban looks to prove that she can hang with the world’s best female wrestlers, despite being a relative newcomer to the ring.”
