Preview: Smash Wrestling ‘Have Ring Will Wrestle’ (5/14/17)

This Sunday, Canada’s premier indie promotion, Smash Wrestling in Toronto, Ontario, returns with it’s next special event, Have Ring, Will Wrestle, from the Phoenix Concert Theatre in downtown Toronto. As always, the event will be available on VOD on Smash On Demand the following week. Another stacked card that features a few stars from WCPW being in town for the Pro Wrestling World Cup Canadian Qualifiers later on that night, both UK and Canadian grapplers.

Six of of Smash’s best local talent – both young and veteran alike – compete in a 6-pack challenge that will be sure to feature a strong showcase of hard hitting action and risky aerial moves. Big prize on the line as the winner of this will get himself a Money In The Bank-esque opportunity to get any match of their choosing a future date.

Megaheel Kevin Bennett is determined to show Smash the true meaning of wrestling, with his blackmailed enforcer, former CZW wrestler Frankie TM against CHIKARA legends, Super Smash Brothers. A perfect balance of power and agility, this will be a high octane match from bell to bell.

Two of Canada’s top female wrestlers internationally, Vanessa Kraven and KC Spinelli meet up in a match that could easily be on any of the major women’s promotions in the US like Shimmer or SHINE. Kraven is the current Shimmer Tag Team Champion with Tessa Blanchard and KC Spinelli has been tearing it up all over, from AAA to WSU to Shimmer.

The Well Oiled Machines seem to be getting a little distracted with some inner turmoil, as Impact Wrestling’s Braxton Sutter seems to be getting jealous of the attention his partner, “Psycho” Mike Rollins has been getting of late. If they’re not careful, the bruising style of Tabernak De Team will destroy them. These French-Canadian bruisers have been all over Canada and the US, with brawls in CZW, CHIKARA and Beyond to name a few.

Canadian Kyle O’Reilly recently left Ring of Honor after winning the ROH World Championship and now he’s having a warm up match for the WCPW Canadian Qualifier for the Pro Wrestling World Cup later on in the evening. He picked a heck of a warm up partner though, in the suplex machine Jeff Cobb (aka Matanza in Lucha Underground). There’s an added incentive for Cobb – for he wins his match, he gets a shot at going after the Smash Championship down the line.

Smash Champion Tyson Dux continues to hold ground over all comers (he defeated PROGRESS’ Jimmy Havoc last month in a brutal No DQ match), this time facing one of Canada’s best Big Men in John Greed. He’s got surprising agility for a man his size and he overpowers the mighty Dux. This should be as physical a match as Dux has seen.

This match features two wrestlers who are warming up for the WCPW show directly following the event, as Britain’s reigning ring wizard and EVOLVE Champion Zack Sabre Jr. takes on former ROH World Champion and IWGP Intercontinental Champion Michael Elgin in a battle of cunning versus power. If Elgin wins his match – and Cobb wins his – then the two will meet up later in the summer for the #1 contendership for the Smash Championship.
