4. John Carney
The 2003 New Orleans Saints entered Week 16 needing to win out to stand any chance of making the playoffs. Their season appeared to be at an end when they trailed 20-13 and had to go 75 yards for a touchdown in just a few seconds. Despite all odds, New Orleans pulled off a multi-lateral touchdown to save their season and score a touchdown as time expired. All they needed to do was hit the extra point to send the game to overtime and save their season.
Unfortunately, kicker John Carney shanked the extra point, and the Saints lost, 20-19, in regulation. Not only did this kick end the game, but it also ended the Saints season. To miss a chip-shot extra point after such an unreal play earns him a spot on this list, especially when you consider the stakes of the kick.
