It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours for the middle of the week. We’re heading towards the March 3 trade deadline and plenty of players are in play. The Chicago Blackhawks are a team heading nowhere fast and they’ll be making deals. There are a pair of big stars yet to decide on their futures. However, a Sam Lafferty trade could also happen. Today’s NHL rumours takes a look at that.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Sam Lafferty on Trade Block

Rumour: TSN’s Trade Bait Board shows the Blackhawks centre is 11th on the most recent list. Lafferty is one of four Chicago players to appear on the board along with Jonathan Toews, Jake McCabe and Max Domi. All of these players and Patrick Kane have appeared on recent editions of our NHL rumours.

The Hollidaysburg, Pa. native has eight goals and 19 points in 45 games this season. Lafferty is in the first year of a two-year deal that brings him $1.15 million per season. He’s a low-cost option that can help out the bottom six of any forward group. The Brown University product has a mean streak as well and can have a bit of snarl to his game.

A Look at a Sam Lafferty Trade

There may be some teams that could be in need of a forward that can go into the dirty areas. The soon-to-be 28-year-old is willing to mix it up and throw his 6-foot, 1-inch 195-pound frame around.

Players like Lafferty may not be the sexy name like a Toews or a Timo Meier. However, players like Lafferty can help a team make a long run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They are usually counted on keep the other team from scoring and salt away games. Chicago will be busy and Lafferty’s cheap contract will likely see him be traded for the second time in the last two seasons.
