It’s Saturday and we’ve got another round of NHL rumours. The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to start it all over and two major stars may get moved. Chicago seems to be one of the teams that could land Connor Bedard with the first pick in the draft. However, the club is also looking to stack up even more picks and draft capital. We already discussed Patrick Kane deciding about his future. However, could we also see a Jonathan Toews trade? This edition of NHL rumours takes a look at that.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours

Jonathan Toews Trade Possible

Rumour: Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said that the Blackhawks captain will also decide on his future in the coming week. Toews is in the final year of his eight-year contract that sees him make $10.5 million. Chicago’s captain also has a full no-movement clause and has to agree to any trade before general manager Kyle Davidson can make one.

Toews has a monster contract, but would be a great player to add for a Stanley Cup drive. Chicago’s centre would likely only go to a team that is a major player to win the Stanley Cup. The Athletic’s Shayna Goldman listed six teams that should make a play for Toews. One of those teams is the hometown Winnipeg Jets.

Could a Jonathan Toews Trade Happen?

Chicago would likely have to retain some salary to swing a deal, but it could be worth it for a contender. Toews would be a great pivot for a team like the Colorado Avalanche that needs to shore up its lineup down the middle. Adding Toews would be something the defending champions could definitely use.

It doesn’t feel real that we could be facing the end of the line for the great Blackhawks’ dynasty of last decade. However, the time has come to burn it down and start all over. Seeing Toews in another sweater may take some getting used to if that happens.
