Report: Gabriel Jesus Signs Extension with Manchester City

Jesus, 20, has made an instant impact in his first 12 months with City. During this time he has scored 17 goals in 36 appearances. While this is not a world class scoring rate, his play and scoring touch has led many to believe he can be something special.

Jesus was already signed with City through 2021, but the two-year extension will see him on contract through 2023 now. This contract extension will also see his pocketbook become a bit thicker.

There is no set figure yet, but the reported range for the new contract is upwards of £100,000 per week. While this may be a drop in the ocean for the deep pockets of Manchester City, it shows their clear intent that they view Gabriel Jesus as the future striking force of the club.

Jesus is not the only City player that has signed an extension recently. Manchester City recently signed David Silva to an extension that has him signed through 2020. And in the same report on Jesus’ contract, ESPN FC states that both Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho are in line for contract extensions as well.

This shows a very clear intent on the part of manager Pep Guardiola to keep the core intact. And with the current form they are experiencing, there is every reason to believe that they can sustain this for the foreseeable future.

Jesus is well-deserving of this extension. In 16 appearances in the Premier League this season, 11 as a starter, he has eight goals and two assists. He also has two goals to his name in the Champions League in six appearances, four as a starter.
