Chelsea Interested in Danny Welbeck
According to a report from David Ornstein and Kieran Gill, the Blues are exploring a move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck. It is said to still be in the early stages but there is optimism that a deal could be viable. It is noted that the the leadership on offer is a big appeal to signing the Englishman.

Proven top level quality is one area that has been short in signings under Clearlake, in this signing they would be bringing in a player with over 500 senior appearances, two Premier League titles, and a Champions league win to his name.
What He Brings
With Joao Pedro almost nailed on to start up front for Alonso, the question becomes who can deputise for him. Nicolas Jackson may not want to be a backup, Liam Delap is coming off a shambolic campaign, and Emmanuel Emegha is both too young and seemingly injury prone. Welbeck would offer the best of both worlds, content to be used as a rotational player, but capable of offering some quality when needed.

He’s a physical player who knows how to score goals, having an average of 1 in 5 across his extensive career, with his 51 strikes in 201 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion being a respectable return. At 35, he would bring the kind of calming presence and seniority that many have felt Chelsea lacking in recent seasons with young players tasked with leading a dressing room before they’re ready.
