Chelsea vs Tottenham: Team News and Predicted Lineups

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur takes place on Tuesday evening at 8:15pm. Following the announcement that Xabi Alonso will take charge at Stamford Bridge in the summer, interim head coach Calum McFarlane has the opportunity to provide the incoming manager with European football. A victory would see the Blues rise into eighth place in the Premier League, enough for Conference League qualification. Although McFarlane’s side were defeated by Manchester City in Saturday’s FA Cup final, an improved performance provides encouragement that Chelsea can end their seven-match winless run in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Spurs were handed a boost with West Ham United suffering defeat on Sunday. That result leaves Tottenham needing a draw to effectively secure survival, given their far superior goal difference over the Hammers. Yet positive results at Chelsea have traditionally been a rarity. A 3–1 victory in 2017/18 remains Tottenham’s sole Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge. The north London side will be encouraged by their form under Roberto De Zerbi, with the team collecting eight points from the last 12 available.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea have no players suspended.

Given the quick turnaround, the Blues are expected to rotate.

Levi Colwill, who was sidelined for nine months due to a knee ligament injury, has started in back-to-back matches. Calum McFarlane was asked about the defender’s status at his press conference. He replied: “We need to be careful with Levi. He’s obviously off the back of a very serious injury and has performed well in those two games. We’ll see how he looks today, how he reports, and we’ll make a decision on that.”

Romeo Lavia was not part of the squad for the FA Cup final defeat, and may require further assessment. McFarlane explained: “Romeo took a slight knock in the build-up to the game. Nothing major, but with Romeo, we didn’t want to take that risk.”

McFarlane added that there was ‘nothing to report’ on Benoit Baidiashille and Mamadou Sarr, who were also absent from the squad.

Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Jesse Derry are all ruled out.

No players are suspended for Tottenham.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been sidelined since undergoing hernia surgery, and De Zerbi was asked about his status at Monday’s press conference. He responded: “Vicario is available to play and I decide tomorrow.”

Antonin Kinsky’s recent form has raised questions over whether De Zerbi will immediately restore Vicario to the starting lineup. However, the manager explained: “It’s not difficult, the decision. Vicario is number one but we have to consider the physical condition, the moment, many things.”

Dominic Solanke will be absent, as De Zerbi confirmed: “Solanke is not ready yet, he is not available. He feels something and I don’t want to take a risk.”

James Maddison made his long-awaited return against Leeds last week. He is expected to feature again, but the extent to which he can contribute remains unclear. De Zerbi said: “Now, he is not ready to play 90 minutes. I want to speak with him tomorrow morning and to take the best decision with him.”

Xavi Simons, Cristian Romero, Mohamed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert and Ben Davies are all ruled out.
