Former Chelsea Star Delivers Damning Verdict on BlueCo Ownership

Chelsea’s 2025/26 season started with such promise, winning the Club World Cup, brushing Paris Saint-Germain aside, 3-0. The season began with a draw at home to Crystal Palace before things improved, with Chelsea sitting second in the league at one point, with everything at Stamford Bridge looking rosy. It quickly began to fall apart, with results beginning to falter, and managerial changes occurring. There is still an FA Cup final to play for, but one former Chelsea star has not been impressed with the club’s owners.

Chelsea’s Early Season Promise Falters

Former Chelsea Star Not Impressed by BlueCo Ownership

Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea endured early-season frustrations, but they also had plenty of ups, including a 2-1 win at home to Liverpool and a 3-0 win in the Champions League against Barcelona. The fans were generally happy, even if the football wasn’t consistently pleasing on the eye.

The results quickly subsided, and Chelsea began to fall down the league. Maresca’s relationship with the BlueCo board seemingly soured, leading to his departure. Liam Rosenior was soon appointed, moving to Stamford Bridge from the BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 team, Strasbourg. After a promising start, Chelsea’s form again dipped, with a capitulation against Paris Saint-Germain showcasing the squad’s defensive deficiencies and the lack of experience they so desperately needed.

That game felt like the beginning of the end for Rosenior, and there wasn’t any real respite, leading to Rosenior’s departure, and the interim team led by Calum McFarlane taking charge once again. Whoever takes the helm once again remains to be seen, but the early reports suggest that Chelsea have compiled a shortlist. Regardless of who comes in next, the ownership needs to change their approach and let the manager build something.

William Gallas Delivers Honest Verdict on BlueCo

Speaking to Get French Football News, former Chelsea star William Gallas gave his honest feedback on Chelsea owners BlueCo:

“We know the problem with Chelsea: the owner has to manage the club better. The fans are not happy with what is happening at Chelsea. We knew the owner was not managing the club in the right way a few years ago. Now they’ve been through multiple managers. They spend money but don’t have anything to show for it. Yes, they won the Club World Cup, but it’s not enough.”

It’s clear Chelsea have suffered through the mistakes of their owners, with the fans filled with disillusionment and the players returning inconsistencies. Regardless of who the next boss is, they need to be given autonomy to sign the players they want to build a culture, because the club is devoid of culture at the moment.

Chelsea football club is not a breeding ground for obscure players who might turn into something, or nothing. Chelsea are a club used to winning trophies. The club needs a manager who can provide structure. They need to be given the freedom to do their job and not be controlled by sporting directors who don’t understand the DNA of the club.

William Gallas is right, “the owner has to manage the club better.”
