Last Word on Football brings you the latest team news and the confirmed lineups ahead of the Sunderland vs Manchester United game today. Kickoff 3 pm GMT.
After securing Champions League football again for next season, another three points at the Stadium of Light would guarantee a top-three finish should Liverpool fail to beat Chelsea. With interim boss Michael Carrick’s future uncertain, he too will want to finish the season as strongly as possible.
Whatever happens in the next three games, it will have been a successful season for the Black Cats. Safety from relegation was accomplished several games ago, and a win here could put them in contention for a European place.

Regis Le Bris on United
Ahead of the game at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris reflected on the game at Old Trafford earlier in the season. He said: “The first 30 minutes, they were really dominant, damaged our left side. It was a strong experience for us, really useful for the games after that. It shows that if you are not ready even for a small part of the game, you can be damaged really easily. We know this is a strong side; we’ll have to be the best version of Sunderland.”

Michael Carrick on Sunderland
Ahead of the game, the United interim boss spoke about Saturday’s opponents. He said: “They’ve had a fantastic season, it’s not easy to come up and get promoted, and to stay in the league, first and foremost, has proved difficult over recent times. But to be near the top half and to be within touching distance of getting into Europe as well is full credit to the season that they’ve had.”
