Life at Manchester United continues to be anything but straightforward. Despite some disappointing early results, Ruben Amorim’s team have begun to improve, with three wins and two draws in their last five games. Joshua Zirkzee is a talented player, described by former Red Devils’ star Lee Sharpe as a “Real Baller.”
The Dutch international joined the club in 2024, scoring seven goals for the club during his first season. This season has seen the Dutch international appear just four times for Amorim, despite the slow start by Benjamin Sesko. With Sesko’s injury and Man Utd set to lose three players to AFCON, it seems unlikely Zirkzee will leave, but Dutch legend Ruud Gullit has spoken to Video Gamer, explaining how Zirkzee’s move to Old Trafford was a mistake.

Manchester United’s last game vs Tottenham wasn’t a great watch for the majority, with Man Utd edging towards a big three points, before a manic last 10 minutes saw the Red Devils claim a dramatic 2-2 draw through a late Matthijs de Ligt goal.

Speaking to Video Gamer, Gullit made it clear he feels moving to Man Utd was the wrong move for Zirkzee:
“I think from my point of view that he should have stayed in Italy because he was really striving. He was really doing well at Bologna and I was hoping that he would go to Milan. I think that as soon as he went to Man Utd, it was the wrong decision. I mean, for a lot of players, moving to Man Utd has been the wrong decision. And whoever leaves them, plays well everywhere around Europe.”

Discussing his hopes for a solution for Zirkzee and Manchester United’s improved form, Gullit said:

“I just hope that there’s a solution for him. Go back to Italy if you can on loan or whatever. Just play football. He’s a good player. But at the moment, it’s difficult at Man Utd. They found a little form in the past couple of weeks and I hope for Man Utd that they continue that. Because a good Man Utd is good for the Premier League as well.”
