International U’s
Marselino Ferdinan was in action but again it came from the bench with the winger getting 30 minutes in a goalless draw against Lebanon.
The 20-year-old, who joined Slovakian side AS Trenčín on loan last week, was unable to make an impact for Indonesia in their friendly match in Surabaya.
To the U21s and Will Lankshear was an unused substitute as England won 2-0 in Kazakhstan but Luke Harris played 82 minutes for Wales in their 6-2 defeat at home against Denmark.
Mark Harris was in action for the Welsh senior side and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 friendly defeat at home against Canada.
The U’s forward had two shots on goal but Craig Bellamy’s side were unable to find the back of the net in Swansea.
The final player involved was Greg Leigh and he also played the full 90 in a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.
The left-back also grabbed an assist in the World Cup qualifier where the Reggae Boyz sit top of their group with two wins from two.
Brannagan Named as New Club Captain
On Friday, Oxford confirmed the appointment of Cameron Brannagan as the club’s new captain.
The midfielder replaces Elliott Moore following his departure on deadline day by mutual agreement, with defender Michal Helik replacing Brannagan as the new vice captain.
Brannagan, ago has spent seven years at the club and turned out 331 times, said: “This is a very proud moment for me and my family.
“I’ve been here for a long time, and it’s been an incredible journey so far. It’s a big privilege to be given this honour and I want to continue to push forward and create new memories.
“I learnt a lot from Elliott, who was a great guy and is a big part of the club’s history, helping to take us back to the Championship as captain. I now want to lead in my own way and be the person who stands up in big moments.
“I want to lead by example off the pitch and in training every day. It’s about setting standards and being the positive influence that the collective follow.
“We need everyone together this season. It’s not just about the players – we need the whole Oxford United family fighting as one. This is a special feeling and together I want us to deliver as much success as we can.”
Head Coach, Gary Rowett, said: “First of all, everyone at the Club would like to wish Elliott all the best going forward after a fantastic career leading Oxford United over many years.
“We have selected Cameron as he is someone who always steps up when the pressure is on. He can be inspirational on the pitch, and we want him to continue to lead in that manner and push the group forward.
“Michal now gets an opportunity as vice-captain to step up and show the natural tendencies which he has to lead both on and off the pitch.
“Both will have the responsibility to lead the culture and the standards every day at our Training Centre to ensure we have a professional and committed environment going forward.”
Leicester Draw
On Saturday, Oxford played out a successive 2-2 home draw as they picked up a point against Leicester.
Unlike the previous fixture against Coventry when Gary Rowett’s side came from behind twice, they took the lead on both occasions against the Foxes. First, Will Lankshear tapped home from close range before debutant Ben Davies saw his header from a corner deflected in.
The U’s will be frustrated that they couldn’t leave with all three points, particularly as the visitors played over 60 minutes with ten men.
