‘Here We Go’: Gunners Agree Deal for ‘Unbelievable’ Player Who ‘Only Wanted Arsenal’

Whilst Arsenal work hard to complete both the dream signing of Viktor Gyökeres and to secure a new contract for starboy Ethan Nwaneri, one other piece of business is happening behind the scenes. Arsenal are now set to sign Cristhian Mosquera, an “unbelievable” young centre-back from Valencia.

Here We Go: Arsenal Agree Deal for Cristhian Mosquera Before Viktor Gyökeres Transfer

Player ‘Only Wanted Arsenal’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have agreed a deal for Mosquera to join. He gave his famous “Here We Go”, meaning that only a medical stands in the way of the transfer being completed. There is a “verbal agreement in place with formal steps to follow”.

The Gunners will pay an up-front fee of around £13 million, with add-ons taking the deal higher, though no more than £17 million. With regards to the player, he “only wanted Arsenal” despite interest from other clubs, and has a long-term contract in place. The Spaniard will undergo his medical later this week.

David Ornstein, of The Athletic, understands that Arsenal see Mosquera as “ideal cover” for their starting centre-backs, clearly putting a lot of faith in the 21-year-old. He reveals that they had considered a move for Dean Huijsen, who had a £50 million release clause, though Real Madrid picked Bournemouth’s starboy up quickly.

Cristhian Mosquera Fits the Mikel Arteta Mould

With Takehiro Tomiyasu’s contract being terminated, Arsenal needed some more cover, not only at centre-back but also at full-back. Mosquera is perfect for this: he is a natural central defender, but can also play at right-back. Mikel Arteta clearly has a type: Ben White and Jurrien Timber also fit this hybrid mould of centre-back/full-back. Not only does this provide great cover, but this means that they also fit the inverting full-back tactic. Mosquera should fit in perfectly.
