‘Progressive’ Replacement ‘Appreciated’: Tottenham Hotspur to Make Decision on Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly having discussions around Ange Postecoglou and his future. Despite winning the UEFA Europa League, they had a torrid season and are currently considering two potential replacements, should the “serial winner” leave. Regardless of who is in charge, next season must see a radical change in results compared to this one.

Tottenham Hotspur to Make Decision on Ange Postecoglou in Next Few Days

Tottenham Consider Two Premier League Managers

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, will decide Postecoglou’s future “in the next few days”. There has reportedly been “no final decision” made yet, and the situation is still “open”, after rumours had been circulating that he had already been sacked.

The journalist continues to reveal that the hierarchy is considering two potential replacements, both from fellow Premier League clubs. Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva are reportedly “appreciated” and are being “discussed internally as options”; both of these exciting managers have been linked with the job for as long as Postecoglou has been under fire.

Thomas Frank a More ‘Progressive’ Manager

Frank is a potentially more radical option, described as having a more “progressive” system. He has operated in a data-led strategy, working with more niche players, often from Scandinavia. The Dane has been at Brentford for almost seven years, and has his tactics down to a tee in West London.

However, this does bring some concerns to fans. Frank’s system works perfectly with the Bees, with players that he has coached for many years. It is unclear how this will translate to a different club, let alone a much larger one with bigger personalities and player profiles.

Furthermore, Frank’s ideas require time to turn performances into results. Meanwhile, Spurs need league results to start going their way immediately. They would be sacking Postecoglou, a progressive manager that needs time to improve, and replacing him with another progressive manager that would need time to implement. It may seem that they are just going back to square one, rather than sticking it out with their current project.

Marco Silva More Adaptable Than Ange Postecoglou

Meanwhile, Silva has worked with many different systems, and even just at Fulham has been very adaptable during games, or periods of the season. Finishing just two points behind Brentford this season, the pedigree appears to be similar at the moment.

Spurs need results, not just to please fans but to capitalise on their Champions League football too. Winning the Europa League means that, despite finishing 17th, they will play UCL football next season, and with that comes a lot of potential prize money. Bringing in a more adaptable manager, who can have an immediate impact, may be smarter.
