Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Spanish giants are now holding direct meetings with the representatives of the young centre-back to come to an agreement over the kind of contract that he’ll sign upon joining the club. It’s added that there is only a matter of a few details to be agreed between Real Madrid and Huijsen’s agents, after which the agreement will be complete.

The journalist also adds that the “agreement on £50 million release clause with Bournemouth has been sealed” for Real Madrid as they are ready to splash the cash for the defender’s signing. Romano has also claimed that the Cherries have agreed for the amount to be paid by the end of 2026 by the Spanish giants, with that agreement done between the two clubs. He states that Xabi Alonso, who is being widely reported to be in line to become Real Madrid’s new manager, urged the club to accelerate their pursuit of signing a new centre-back and that pushed them to start working on securing this deal.

It seems that the Spanish giants are about to come out on top of the race to sign the highly rated young centre-back. That is because Huijsen was also linked with Premier League clubs like Chelsea, but they appear to be coming up short-handed on this pursuit. The 20-year-old defender, who joined Bournemouth in the 2024 summer transfer window, has been a revelation for the Cherries.

He has made 34 appearances for Bournemouth in the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals and helping them keep seven clean sheets in 30 Premier League appearances so far. He’s scored against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, proving his quality to play at the top level. Huijsen also made his debut for the Spain national team earlier this season, with his composed defensive nature, combative style and passing qualities earning him a lot of interest. Real Madrid, however, look set to win the race to sign the Spaniard to strengthen their defensive line for the 2025/26 season and beyond.
