‘Advancing in Talks’: Liverpool Pushing to Sign ‘Special’ Player With Key Release Clause

Liverpool are planning for the 2025/26 season and beyond, after having sealed the 2024/25 Premier League title with a few games in hand. They now seem to be pushing for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong to fill a key role in the squad going forward.

Liverpool Accelerating Chase for Bayer Leverkusen Defender Jeremie Frimpong Signing

How Much Will Frimpong’s Signing Cost Liverpool?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Reds are now “advancing in talks” to sign the Dutch full-back in the 2025 summer transfer window. He claims that contacts between the parties began recently, and Liverpool are now looking to accelerate their pursuit of the former Bundesliga champion.

The journalist further claims that Liverpool’s representatives have approached Bayer Leverkusen’s management about a discussion on the structure of possible payment for Frimpong’s £29.4 million release clause that is inserted into his contract. Romano has also claimed that “talks also underway” between Liverpool and the Dutchman’s representatives on a possible deal and that the 24-year-old is personally keen on joining the reigning Premier League champions in the summer. Liverpool’s acceleration for this deal comes after their right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, confirmed that he will be leaving the club after the end of the 2024/25 season, as he seems destined to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

How Will Frimpong Fit In At Liverpool?

The reason why Arne Slot’s side are chasing for the signing of a quality full-back is because they will find a shortage of options in the right-back position after Alexander-Arnold’s departure. Conor Bradley is primed to get more game time in that place, but Liverpool would want to sign a quality replacement for Alexander-Arnold to keep their squad options strong enough to compete on all fronts next season.

They will be getting a quality player in Frimpong if they are able to get the deal done. The 24-year-old is actually a product of Manchester City’s academy, and he has flourished in the Bundesliga. He can play as a right-back or even as a right wing-back with ease, and has 30 goals and 44 assists in 190 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in his career. The Dutchman, who was hailed as a “special player” by Xabi Alonso, has five goals and 12 assists in the 2024/25 season and should be a good fit for Liverpool’s style.
