Another decent week for Oxford United as they ended the campaign in style with a six goal thriller and the end of season awards.
Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Brown Brace and Swansea Stalemate
Brown Bags a Brace at Awards Evening
It was another end of season awards to remember for Ciaron Brown as he scooped the Player’s Player and Supporter’s Player of the Season.
The U’s defender, who has missed the last few games through injury, also achieved the feat at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
The 27-year-old has been sensational this season, both at centre back and left back, turning out 42 times. The Northern Ireland international has also added four goals and three assists.
‘I’ve Got No Doubt That Browny Will Be Our Player Next Season’
Following his double scoop at the end of season awards, some reports claimed other Championship clubs are interest in signing Ciaron Brown.
However, head coach Gary Rowett dismissed the rumours, saying: “I think he’s been hugely important. When you first come into the building, I’d seen him play a number of times.
“He looked to me like one of those players that was in-between a left back and a left centre back.
“I’ve got to say, having watched him, I think he’s been an outstanding centre back who can play left back. That’s where I would see him.
“I think he’s been very consistent. He’s defended the box incredibly well. At the end of games, he’s showed his bravery, and shown his quality as well and a level of athleticism.
“I think he’s one that certainly this season, he more than deserves to perform in the Championship.
“There’s a bit of PR out there from people saying that other clubs are looking at him, but I’ve got no doubt that Browny will be our player next season, and deservedly so.”
Sensational Stalemate at Swansea for Oxford United
Oxford ended the season with an entertaining 3-3 draw on the road at Swansea.
The hosts took the lead three times in West Wales but goals from Greg Leigh, Michal Helik and Przemyslaw Placheta ensured a point.
The result means the U’s end their first season in the second tier for 25 years in 17th spot.
