Al Nassr Continue to Haunt Brighton Amid Kaoru Mitoma Interest

Brighton are aiming for a European place this season, with Fabian Hurzeler having enjoyed mixed success in his first season at the Seagulls. An FA Cup quarter-final followed a seven-game unbeaten run, but since that disappointing loss on penalties, Brighton has failed to win their previous two league games. This could have been a lot worse if star winger Karou Mitoma departed in January.

Al Nassr Following From January’s Interest

It was a stressful January for Seagull’s fans, with the news that Al Nassr were lining up massive bids for their star winger. The club has signed the likes of Cristiano Rolando, Sadio Mane and Jhon Duran and were looking to bolster their attack in the January transfer window.

Brighton rejected the first offer of £54 million. Al Nassr prepared another bid shortly after. Their second bid of a whopping £75 million was also pushed away by the Sussex team. According to Alex Crook, they are now looking at a summer move for the 27-year-old. Despite this, he is not interested in a move to the Middle East. The Brighton winger has two years left on his contract after he signed a 4-year deal in 2023.

Why Brighton Want to Keep Hold of Mitoma

Brighton have successfully kept Mitoma at the club despite many teams linking themselves to him in the past. He has nailed down the left-wing position for the last few years. On his day he is one of the best wingers in the league. His electric pace combined with his incredible ball control makes him one of the best dribblers in the league. He is a nightmare for many Premier League defenders to play against.

He has racked up eight goals and three assists this season in all competitions. This has made it his second-best season for goal contributions after the 2022/23 season, with 17 goal contributions in the campaign that Brighton clinched European football for the first time.

Seagulls manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his delight when Mitoma chose to stay at Brighton in January. I’m pleased, but I think he’s also pleased that he’s playing for Brighton because he also knows what he gets from us and he knows that he can develop here. He showed his commitment from the first day. He was never asked in the club to respond to that offer. So we showed an impressive reaction beside and on the pitch.”
