Team News, Form and Prediction as Oxford United Travel to Sheffield Wednesday

Oxford United will be looking to bounce back from their home defeat against QPR when the U’s travel to Sheffield Wednesday.

Gary Rowett’s side put in arguably the worst first half performance of the campaign and found themselves two goals down by the break.

The other frustrating part of that defeat against the R’s was that it followed a shock win over table-topping Sheffield United.

As for Wednesday, they are without a win in their last four. The Owls have picked up draws on the road at Cardiff and Blackburn but lost at home against Sheffield United and Hull. In fact, Wednesday have lost their last four games at Hillsborough and have failed to win in seven since a victory on New Year’s Day over Derby.

Oxford suffered an injury blow on Wednesday night with Ciaron Brown being forced off. Fellow full-back Hidde ter Avest also went off in the second half while skipper Elliott Moore remains sidelined.

Wednesday don’t have any major injury concerns, with Max Lowe and Di’Shon Bernard the only two currently sidelined.

We’ve touched on Wednesday’s recent home form but their form at Hillsborough in general is poor, with only Hull having a worse home record in the league. However, Oxford still have a woeful away record with just one win on their travels this season. The U’s have also lost their last two away games despite taking the lead.

Danny Röhl’s side won the reverse fixture in what proved to be Des Buckingham‘s final game in charge before his dismissal. Oxford are unbeaten in their last four league visits to Hillsborough, with a goalless draw and late win coming when the sides met in League One.

Predicted line-up: Jamie Cumming, Michal Helik, Ben Nelson, Sam Long, Joe Bennett, Alex Matos, Will Vaulks, Stan Mills, Ruben Rodrigues, Siriki Dembele, Mark Harris.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Oxford United
