‘Next Chapter’: Manchester United Won’t Extend £150K P/W Squad Player’s Contract

Manchester United suffered their 12th defeat of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a bitter 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Christian Eriksen was an absence for them in the game and there is a new update on his future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United Make Christian Eriksen Contract Decision

What Is In the Future for Eriksen?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Danish midfielder is going to “soon start exploring options” on his future as he will not be getting a new contract extension to his deal at Old Trafford. His current deal, which he signed upon joining the Red Devils in 2022, is going to be expiring at the end of June (2025) and he’ll become a free agent after that.

The journalist adds that Eriksen is set to leave United in the summer after not being able to make himself a quintessential part of Ruben Amorim’s squad since he arrived in the middle of the campaign. The 33-year-old missed the opportunity to play against his former side Tottenham in the recent Premier League clash because of an illness, with Ruben Amorim stating: “I think Leny (Yoro) and Chris, they were sick. So they will recover. Of course Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that. It’s nothing about the heart! I’m just saying the heart rate has to be controlled because he has a fever.”

Eriksen’s Time at Manchester United a Failure?

The Danish midfielder joined the Red Devils as a free agent, but has not been able to make himself a regular starter in their team. He has been able to make 93 appearances for Manchester United, in which he’s scored seven goals as well as providing 17 assists across all competitions.

Eriksen has also been able to win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup titles with the Red Devils in recent campaigns, but a lack of consistency has hurt him. The 33-year-old, who is reported to be on a £150,000-a-week wages at Old Trafford, was linked to a possible move to Ajax in the 2024 summer window and might look to return to his childhood club on a free transfer in the summer, unless he gets a better offer.
