Barcelona are viewed as a club with one of the best academies in football history. One of La Masia’s more recent graduates is about to commit his future to the team as Gavi will soon sign a new contract.
Gavi Gives His Word to Barcelona for New Contract
Gavi to Extend His Contract in Catalonia
Fabrizio Romano revealed that Gavi is set to sign a new contract with the Blaugrana. The “documents are being checked” before he puts pen to paper, but the final details should soon have been completed.
The 20-year-old made his debut in 2021, having spent six years in La Masia, and burst onto the scene for club and country as a player with “huge potential.” He played almost 100 games across his first two campaigns for the first team and was an integral part of Barcelona’s most recent squad to win La Liga.
However, he endured a serious setback to his development at the end of 2023. The Spanish midfielder missed most of last season after a knee injury on international duty and was absent from EURO 2024.
At his youthful age, he has shown resilience to return to full fitness. Now, as Gavi has given his word to Blaugrana for a new contract, the vision for the future continues to clear up for the Catalonian club.
Barcelona Building a New Generation
Gavi is not the only player to be preparing for a contract. According to Romano, Barcelona believe that Pedri will first sign a new deal at some point on January 30, 2025.
These are just two of the players that are breathing life back into Barcelona’s squad.
Marc Casadó continues to earn minutes in the middle of the park with Gavi and Pedri (making the most of fellow graduate Marc Bernal’s absence). Alejandro Balde has stood out as the successor to left-back Jordi Alba and 18-year-old Pau Cubarsí commands respect from the centre of their defence.

Last but by no means least is the youngest player of the collection. Lamine Yamal has taken the world by storm with the maturity of his displays as a 17-year-old right winger. Romano stated that the Catalonian club will try to tie down his future with the club: a proposition that will excite all fans.
A fun future awaits the team if new deals become possible for all their younger players. For now, Barcelona can be content with a new contract for Gavi, who continues to contribute in the present.
