Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Rowett Revival Continues and Transfer Activity

Another busy week for Gary Rowett’s Oxford United who remain unbeaten in the Championship after two more fixtures.

Elsewhere, there has been some movement in the squad, which we have covered right here.

Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Rowett’s Tricky Yellows and Transfer Movements

Scarlett Recalled By Spurs

Striker Dane Scarlett was recalled by his parent club, Tottenham.

The 20-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions and found the net four times.

While he was getting minutes in yellow, the arrival of Ole Romeny and Tom Bradshaw may have hampered his progress at Grenoble Road so the Premier League club decided to recall the England U20 international.

Another Home Win Against the Hatters

Gary Rowett kept his 100 per cent home record intact with a 3-2 win over Luton.

The U’s had to come from behind twice at Grenoble Road but goals from Michal Helik, Ciaron Brown and Greg Leigh ensured another three points for Oxford.

The result moved the U’s nine points clear of the drop and just seven off the playoffs.

Negru Returns to Salford

U’s defender Stephan Negru then rejoined Salford City on loan.

The 22-year-old, who made 22 appearances for the Manchester-based side after joining on loan at the start of the campaign, was recalled earlier this month but didn’t feature for the U’s.

Oxford Approach Ajax Midfielder

Oxford have approached Ajax for 21-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international, Benjamin Tahirovic, according to Mike Verweij.

The midfielder, who rejected a move to Coventry last season, is also a target for Torino and Udinese, among others.

Sibley Departs on Loan

Louie Sibley joined Negru out the door with the midfielder joining Rotherham on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old, who joined the club in the summer, has struggled for minutes under Des Buckingham and Rowett, so the opportunity to help the Millers ticks boxes for both parties.

Sibley played 14 times in all competitions, scoring once in a 1-1 draw away at Portsmouth and would score on his Millers debut.

Point Against the Potters

Oxford remain unbeaten in the league under Rowett after a goalless draw on the road against Stoke.

It was a scrappy afternoon in Staffordshire but both sides will be happy with a point, despite January signing Ole Romeny striking the bar from a tight angle with the goal gaping.

However, it’s still a step in the right direction for the U’s.
