Real Madrid have been suffering from a major crisis in defence and saw their first-choice centre-back Eder Militao pick up a season-ending injury in the recent 4-0 win over Osasuna. Amid this, one of their rumoured targets Aymeric Laporte has reflected on a possible move to the club.
Aymeric Laporte Responds To Real Madrid Move Rumours
What Did Laporte Say?
The 30-year-old centre-back left Manchester City in 2023 to join Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr and has been playing for them since. But his heroics for Spain in the Euro 2024 proved his ability to thrive at the top level in Europe and Real Madrid have been linked with signing him next year.

Laporte was recently asked about seeing himself linked to Real Madrid and stated: “I’d obviously listen to Real Madrid call, you can’t ignore clubs like that. It feels good to see the links. I’m not so informed about that, but it’s obviously nice.”
Considering that Laporte is contracted to Al-Nassr until the end of June 2027, it won’t be easy for the Spanish heavyweights to sign him in the 2025 January transfer window. But with the shortage of experienced centre-back options, they might be forced to splurge on a new defender to steady the ship.
Real Madrid Troubled By Major Injuries
Los Blancos were left a bit short-staffed in the centre-back department earlier this summer when Nacho Fernandez opted to leave them for a new chapter in his career. To make things worse, Mlilitao is now injured and David Alaba isn’t showing any signs of making an imminent return after the November international break.

That is why Real Madrid are probably keeping an eye on centre-back targets. They can definitely benefit from a left-footed centre-back like Laporte, who boasts impressive passing ability and is defensively solid. He helped Spain keep two clean sheets in Euro 2024 and played a part in their championship success, as well as helping the Saudi side keep three clean sheets in nine leagues games in the 2024/25 season. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid strongly push for his signing in the summer to add more depth to their backline.
