Real Madrid are looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats in all competitions with a home game against Club Atlético Osasuna this weekend. Read on for our predictions for that game plus the rest of the La Liga matches on matchday 13.
La Liga Matchday 13 Predictions – Real Madrid On Brink of Crisis
Looking to Put the Past Behind
If the Madrid-based media are anything to base judgement upon, you’d think Real Madrid are in a relegation battle. The reality is they’ve lost their last two matches in all competitions by an aggregate score of 7-1 but remain in second place in La Liga. While the talk of a “crisis” might be a slight overreaction, it is true that there are increasing concerns about how this Madrid team is functioning together.
If Los Blancos are intent on turning things around before they escalate, they’ll have to hope their front line pulls its weight defensively against CA Osasuna. The team from Pamplona have only lost one of their past seven La Liga matches and have shot into 5th place in the league. They’ll become the third consecutive team to win at the Santiago Bernabéu if they do manage the result. However, three losses on the trot seems a little too far-fetched for a Madrid team of this quality.
LWOF Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 CA Osasuna

League leaders FC Barcelona face a trip to the city of San Sebastián to play Real Sociedad in Sunday’s late kickoff. Los Culers have a nine-point lead over their closest rivals (albeit Madrid have a game in hand) and haven’t been able to stop scoring. Their 36-year-old front man, Robert Lewandowski, will be looking to add to his 14 league goals against his mid-table opponents.
LWOF Prediction: Real Sociedad 1-4 FC Barcelona
Atlético Madrid produced a remarkable win away to PSG in midweek, having suffered for 90 minutes with a heavily weakened defence. It’s unlikely Jose María Giménez and Robin Le Normand will be back for their match against RCD Mallorca on Sunday, so they will need another resolute performance from their back line. The Balearics were unable to continue their good form last week, going down 1-0 away to Deportivo Alavés amidst difficult circumstances.
LWOF Prediction: RCD Mallorca 0-1 Atlético Madrid
Time to Push Up The Table
Getafe CF have drawn seven of the twelve La Liga games they have played so far this season, winning just once. They have their heads above the relegation zone for now but will want to accumulate more points when they host a damaged Girona on Sunday. Girona were battered 4-0 away to PSV in the Champions League and are struggling with the demands of European football.
LWOF Prediction: Getafe CF 1-0 Girona FC
It’s also time for a win for Real Valladolid, who have won just once since the three points they picked up on the opening day of the season. They will welcome Athletic Club to Pucela, with the Basques only registering one win in their last five league matches. They will also have to shake off the effects of a Thursday away trip to Bulgaria in the Europa League.
LWOF Prediction: Real Valladolid 1-0 Athletic Club

The recent resurgence of UD Las Palmas under new boss Diego Martínez could continue as the Canary Islanders go away to Rayo Vallecano on Friday night. They recorded a 7-0 victory in the Copa del Rey (albeit against sixth-tier opposition) and have won two of their last three in the league. A chance to get out of the relegation zone awaits if they can pick up a result in Vallecas.
LWOF Prediction: Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Las Palmas
Best Of The Rest
In what may look like an unusual choice for a Saturday late match, CD Leganés play Sevilla FC. Both teams are looking to consolidate themselves as mid-table regulars, but for differing reasons. Leganés, having just been promoted to La Liga, will see it as a huge achievement if they can avoid relegation, whereas Sevilla are trying to rid themselves of any embarrassment or crisis tagline they have been associated with in recent years.
LWOF Prediction: CD Leganés 1-1 Sevilla FC

Real Betis and RC Celta Vigo have the potential to give us a “partidazo” (great game) when they face each other on Sunday lunchtime. Both teams have been in up-and-down form of late, but their best football has been some of the most entertaining to watch in the whole of La Liga. A difficult one to predict, though a chance of many goals.
LWOF Prediction: Real Betis 3-2 RC Celta Vigo
As mentioned previously, Villarreal’s match with Deportivo Alavés will go on despite the on-going humanitarian crisis in the Valencian region. In what will be a very solemn atmosphere for most, the team will be hoping to give the people something to be cheerful about amidst the recent suffering. Alavés won’t make it easy, despite going on a six-match losing streak before last weekend’s win at home to Mallorca.
LWOF Prediction: Villarreal CF 1-1 Deportivo Alavés
