Chelsea had a thrilling 2024 summer transfer window in which they made over ten signings to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad and it doesn’t look like their entire transfer business is done yet. That is because they’re now seemingly set to offload another young player in David Datro Fofana.
Chelsea Agree David Datro Fofana Loan Move to AEK Athens
How Much Could Chelsea Receive for Fofana?
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues will be able to offload the striker after there was an “agreement reached” with the Greek club AEK Athens to loan him for the entirety of the 2024/25 season. The summer transfer window in Greece closes on September 11 and it appears that the London side have been able to find an agreement just in time.

The journalist also adds that the loan deal has a buy option inserted into it. It’s stated that Chelsea could end up getting £20 million for the forward if Athens decide to sign him permanently in June 2025, which is their decision to make. Romano also adds that Fofana has personally accepted this move and that paperwork will now be done to get this finalised before the transfer window closes for the Greek football clubs.
How Many Players Have Chelsea Offloaded This Summer?
Fofana will add to the numerous players either loaned out or sold by Chelsea this summer window. It has been reported that by including both senior team players and youth team products, the Blues will have offloaded as many as 41 players in the summer window once the Ivorian forward’s move to AEK Athens is confirmed.
Maresca had to begin the campaign with an extremely bloated squad and ended up discarding the likes of Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling and Kepa Arrizabalaga from this squad, with the English winger going to Arsenal and the Spaniard moving to Bournemouth on loan.

Fofana, who only joined the Blues in 2023 from Molde, was only able to make four appearances for the senior team. He spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley, scoring two goals in 17 matches for the Bundesliga club and four goals in 15 matches for the Clarets. The 21-year-old clearly couldn’t win over Maresca and now will embark on a new journey in his career with the reputed Greek club.
