‘Breaking Spending Record’: Chelsea Set for Solid Profit On Selling Young ‘Prodigy’

'Breaking Spending Record': Chelsea Set for Solid Profit On Selling Young 'Prodigy': Deivid Washington

Chelsea are poised to have an exhilarating end to the 2024 summer transfer window after having made over 11 new signings. It now appears that they’re looking to trim down the squad and are close to selling young forward Deivid Washington.

Chelsea Finalise Deivid Washington Sale to Strasbourg

How Much Will Chelsea Receive?

French outlet L’Equipe claims that the Blues are now working hard on finalising the last details for the permanent sale of Washington to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. They claim that the French will be “breaking its spending record” to rope in the promising young Brazilian in an effort to strengthen their squad for the 2024/25 season.

L’Equipe claims that Chelsea will be receiving a fee of around £17.6 million for the young forward’s sale, which marks a minor profit after they signed him from Santos in 2023 for around £17.2 million. It’s also added that Washington is likely to sign a five-year contract with the French club, where he’ll definitely get more game-time than he could’ve expected in Enzo Maresca’s bloated squad.

However, this transfer is bound to raise some question marks because both Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by the same company in BluesCo. The fact that Chelsea are selling Washington for a profit despite not playing him regularly has definitely confused some fans.

What Went Wrong for Deivid Washington at Chelsea?

Ever since he arrived at Stamford Bridge in the 2023 summer window, Washington faced heavy pressure from tough competitiveness at Chelsea. The 19-year-old actually performed really well for the Blues’ U21 side last season, scoring six goals in the PL2.

He even made his senior debut in the loss to Brentford at home and made three appearances for the senior team, but failed to score in his late cameos. It doesn’t look like the “prodigy” was able to win over Enzo Maresca and is now being sold to a place where he’ll get regular playing time at the top level. This comes after Chelsea also sealed the departures of forward Romelu Lukaku and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after lengthy transfer sagas.
