Chelsea Swap Interest From ‘Inexperienced’ Youngster to ‘Superstar’: ‘Now Discussing’

Chelsea Swap 'Inexperienced' Youngster for 'Superstar': 'Now Discussing'

Chelsea have reportedly moved on from the Samu Omorodion saga and are now considering a move for Joao Felix, tied in with their imminent sale of Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea Discussing Move to Buy Joao Felix Back to Stamford Bridge

Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez Deals at Risk of Collapse

David Ornstein has revealed that the move for Omorodion has collapsed despite the two clubs agreeing a deal, due to complications with the contract. However, this has left Chelsea and Atletico Madrid worried as they do not want the deals for Gallagher and Julian Alvarez to also collapse. Felix seems like the solution to the problem, and the two clubs are “now discussing” a swap deal.

If Atleti swapped him for Gallagher, this should make up for the profit that they would’ve generated from an Omorodion sale. They could then still afford Alvarez from Manchester City, meaning the Colchoneros get both of their transfer targets. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s main concern seems to be getting their 24-year-old academy product out of the club, despite him wanting to stay. Madrid may be the only viable destination, and Felix allows this to happen.

Does Joao Felix Fix Chelsea’s Problems?

Chelsea had many problems last season, sitting almost mid-table for the majority of the season. Their pre-season has been less than desirable, winning just one, drawing two, and losing three.

However, it does not seem that Felix would fix these problems. They have quality forwards in Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, not to mention Pedro Neto‘s imminent arrival. Furthermore, they have already spent excessive amounts on young attackers who need gametime to develop: Marc Guiu has come through the door this summer, whilst Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk both came in for sizeable fees. This seems like a strange transfer that is perhaps only being done to allow for the Gallagher departure.

In fairness, a transfer for a player who once had “superstar” quality is better than the purchase of another “inexperienced” youngster.
