Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries is reportedly holding out for a transfer rather than committing to Inter Milan, at least whilst the summer window is still open.
Denzel Dumfries Keen on Manchester United Move
Player Waiting Until September to Negotiate a New Contract
David Ornstein has reported that Dumfries does not intend to open negotiations with his current club over a new contract until after the summer transfer window. This is due to a “particular appeal” towards a move to Manchester United, which he is keen on.

Despite Inter Milan wanting to secure a new deal with the right-back, he is focused on a move elsewhere, favouring an exit over another year in Italy. His contract expires in less than 12 months, so this could be the Nerazzurri’s last chance to command a big fee for the 28-year-old.
Manchester United Prefer Noussair Mazraoui
This move for Dumfries is currently being limited by United’s long-term interest in Noussair Mazraoui. The Red Devils prefer the idea of signing the Bayern Munich player, who they have been in talks for.

However, to enable the Mazraoui deal, Aaron Wan-Bissaka needs to be sold to West Ham. The alternative would be to swap the former Crystal Palace defender for Dumfries. Whilst the INEOS-run club prefer the former option, Wan-Bissaka favours a move to Italy, and it is up to him to accept or reject the Hammers. It’s unclear which right-back is more likely to be playing at Old Trafford come September.
How Would Denzel Dumfries Suit Manchester United?
Swapping Dumfries for Wan-Bissaka would not provide a like-for-like replacement. The Serie A winner is a very attacking full-back, often playing as a wing-back. By contrast, the Englishman excels defensively but may struggle in the final third.

This would benefit Erik ten Hag’s side, who conceded the fourth least goals last campaign. Their defence was very strong and they have quality centre-backs. Meanwhile, their biggest struggle was in scoring goals. Finding the back of the net just 57 times resulted in a negative goal difference, and was the reason that they failed to qualify for European football via league position.
It’s unclear who their starting right-winger will be, but Dumfries’ overlapping runs will no doubt help support them as United strive for a Top Six finish.
