Borussia Dortmund director Lars Ricken recently spoke about the future of Karim Adeyemi. The 22-year-old German attacker has been gaining interest from the Premier League after two solid seasons with the Bundesliga side.

It’s not exactly unusual to see English teams swarm around a young talent, especially one who has just been involved in the Champions League final. With Manchester City still dominating the league, everyone around them is stocking up to try and mount a challenge at the top of the table.

Sky Sports Germany reported on links with the Blues and the Reds, as well as some Serie A teams. CaughtOffside’s Mark Brus threw the Gunner’s name into the mix, although it is only a brief mention. Of the three, links seem strongest for Enzo Maresca’s side which would fit the recruiting profile of other Clearlake signings.

What Did Ricken Have to Say

Despite the whispers of interest from the Premier League, Ricken didn’t seem too eager to see the player leave. Per Fabrizio Romano, he is quoted as stating “we never opened a door. For us, that’s not an issue at all” He followed that with a scathing “every day there is a name in the press who supposedly wants to leave…”

While Adeyemi hasn’t set the world ablaze for the Bundesliga side, an unwillingness to sell, and the player not kicking up a fuss, could drive his fee higher than any of the English sides want to pay. With PSR hanging over the heads of each team, they have to spend wisely and taking a punt on a 22-year-old who has only scored 9 times in 45 league appearances may be too risky in the current landscape.
