Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea have “made contact in recent months” with the La Liga club to understand the conditions that need to be met to sign the promising young winger in the summer window. He adds that the Spaniard was even on their transfer wish list last summer before they signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City.

However, the journalist also states that despite appreciating the quality of Williams, the Blues are not advancing on a deal to sign him. That is because of the sheer cost of the operation which is much higher than what the club would be willing to agree on. Romano also adds that the Athletic Bilbao winger has a £49 million release clause in his contract, making him an expensive signing for any club. But there is also the aspect of the 21-year-old asking for a high salary, and the London side believes his demands are substantial.

The Blues have reportedly ended their interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise after realising that he’s interested in a move to Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old was hailed as a “starboy” after his heroics in the win over Italy, scored eight goals and provided 19 assists for Athletic Bilbao last season.
