‘First Talks’: Chelsea Begin Talks With Bundesliga Team Regarding ‘Top Talent’

Chelsea are typically a busy club in the transfer window. Over the summer, purchases of coveted midfielders Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo proved that the Blues are eager to recover from last year’s poor showing in the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino has so far been unable to improve the West London outfit’s fortunes, but according to Florian Plettenberg, the club are ready to battle other English teams for the signing of David Odogu.

Plettenberg noted that “First talks with both clubs took place.” Negotiations are still in the early stages. Driving Odogu’s departure from Wolfsburg is the decision by the club to not include him in the club’s winter training camp. Although he is still a youngster – Chelsea and Leicester appear ready to bring him to England.

Odogu’s agents are testing the market to see where he could end up. Plettenberg also mentions that other English clubs have “inquired about him” and that the defender “is ready for a new challenge.” Wolfsburg will be hoping – to receive a decent bid from Chelsea or Leicester to let the 17-year-old go.

Qualities of David Odogu

Winning the U17 World Cup has thrown Odogu into the world spotlight, but he has been a talented footballer since before then. At 1.90m, the towering defender is a dominating presence. His height allows him to patrol the central area of defence with authority.
